Sometimes, we miss things that are right under our Sometimes, we miss things that are right under our nose.

It's easily done, but if you dial in, you start to notice...

In the last couple of weeks, I've spotted two articles that demonstrate progress on environmental issues from places you would not expect.

This week, I was flicking through my latest copy of Broadleaf, the seasonal newsletter I get from the @woodlandtrust as I'm a member when I spotted an unexpected partnership.

@screwfix_uk is not necessarily a brand we'd associate with being a leader in sustainability. However, they have been working with the Woodland Trust over the last 3 years on restoring 50 acres of ancient woodland in Dorset, planting 4000 new trees in north Yorkshire and 80 Screwfix employees collectively planted 1000 trees over 2 days in Devon. As we know, restoring woodland in the UK is badly needed.

And a couple of weeks, I read an article about Hector Bellerin, a Spanish footballer. Again,we don't exactly associate football with sustainability- but this gentleman is leading by example. In his words "with power comes responsibility"

Hector uses his large social media following and public appearances to campaign for climate action, encourage more ethical consumption and drive community change.

So next time you catch yourself thinking no-one else is taking action, there's much more going on, even in the most unusual of places, than we know about.

Slightly speechless. Never in my wildest dreams d Slightly speechless.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would appear on a line up with a global icon.

This weekend, I'm delivering 2 talks at the gorgeous @homelifeandyou show.

It's a show dedicated to helping us sort out our homes, improve our lifestyle and offers is support through some of those more difficult times in our life.

@mariekondo of @konmari.co fame is now a regular at the show - and this year is being interviewed by Jemma Solomon @label.lady.1

She's obviously a huge draw and last year the whole show stopped for her appearance.

This year, guess who's on the line up directly afterwards?? Yep, yours truly. Literally Talking Rubbish. 😊😅

So if you're at the show on Saturday, please come along and support (or just don't run away as soon as the Marie Kondo interview has finished)

And do come and say hi, a friendly face is always appreciated.
How to make a boring subject a bit more glamorous. How to make a boring subject a bit more glamorous...

We hear about the advantages of better insulation all the time. Conserving energy reduces bills and reduces pressure on the grid.

Less energy use is better for reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

Simple.

We know this but talk of insulation immediately switches most of us off.

But what if conserving energy was an opportunity to glam up your house a little?

Just how gorgeous are these images of shutters and blinds?

Elegant, affordable and the perfect way to help keep your home warm in the winter months and cooler in the summer months.

Adding blinds or shutters to your windows can help to reduce heat loss by up to a 1/3! That's huge. Think of how much money you'd save over a short space of time.

Full disclosure, these images were borrowed from a fabulous family run business called @oaktreeshutters run by a wonderful human called Gareth Keyte.

Gareth happens to be married to my business coach @dawnowencoach so I can honestly say this is a business you can trust to deliver.

I'm a huge advocate for supporting small local businesses, especially when they help us live more sustainably.

Their website is stunning too with options for most budgets so go take a look.
Not long now!! I'm almost at the point where I'm Not long now!!

I'm almost at the point where I'm too excited to sleep.

This weekend I'm back at the @homelifeandyou show - 1 of my favourite weekends of the year.

2 years ago, show director @pennymoyses gave me my first ever opportunity to talk on stage. I'm not going to lie, at the time I was incredibly nervous - public speaking had never been on my radar.

When I sat down to be interviewed by the sensation that is @isitdanidawks though, something inside me changed.

We talked a bit about my story, my inspirations and where to start when making small changes in order to be more eco-friendly. Seeing people make notes while I was sharing advice flicked a switch in my head - I knew standing on stages was a great way to share my help with even more people.

This weekend I'm up on stage twice, talking about very different topics.

Saturday I'm quite literally Talking Rubbish! Penny was keen for me to share ways we can reduce the amount we throw away - and as I put my waste bin out 3 times a year, I'll be bringing some of my top tips to this subject.

On Sunday I'll be talking about more eco-friendly laundry habits. It's an opportunity to reduce the amount of chemicals in our home, reduce energy use AND make our clothes last longer.

Intrigued?

Head over to the Home Life and You show site to book your tickets - and use the discount code SPARKLE to save money.

Will you be joining us at the Excel?
Check out the timetable to plan which speakers you're going to listen to and which Exhibitors tick your boxes. So much to love!

See you there. 😄

Stick with me on this one. On #worldmentalhealth Stick with me on this one.

On #worldmentalhealth day, I wanted to reflect managing eco anxiety.

Whether we recognise it or not, the innocence we had growing up expecting a safe and stable future has gone.

Our younger family members will never know an age where climate change isn't going to impact their future.

Controlling where we read the news, who we speak with and what stories we expose ourselves to is crucial in managing our mental health.

In my program I place great importance on sharing the huge numbers of people across the globe who are already taking action to repair our environment. Feeling part of a community reminds us we're not alone in our actions.

Being reminded of the progress we're making through innovation, knowing there are individuals who regularly litter pick, organisations making huge strides towards being more sustainable and in some case entire countries achieving net zero - is absolutely vital.

One source of positivity I regularly point my clients to is the Earthshot prize. Founded by Prince William 5 years ago -

“The Earthshot Prize exists to champion the game-changers, the makers, the creatives, the leaders.”

This years finalists incluse an organisation that has transformed 200 million lives in Africa with their solar-powered products, another which has replaced 21.5 million single use plastic items with sustainable seaweed packaging, and a Bristol based company tackling the microplastics issue on our Oceans with a filter that attaches to our washing machines. The filter is self-cleaning, cost-efficient and hugely scalable, making it suitable for individual homes.

The final will be held on Wednesday 5th November - be sure to watch!

You'll feel so much more positivity, I promise.

It's back!! Was anyone else glued to the TV at 9p It's back!!

Was anyone else glued to the TV at 9pm last night?

I've been counting down the weeks until the new series of the Traitors - and it didn't disappoint!

The setting, the suspense, the plot twists and the fascinating play out of celebrities trying to work out who they can and can't trust - Celebrity Traitors has it all!

I'm now getting a double dose of Claudia each week as Strictly is back too - another huge favourite program of mine. I'd love the chance to dance with Johannes.

And it always feels like the countdown to Christmas once Strictly is back on our screens. Shops are already full of decorations, cards and gifts begging us to buy stuff we don't really need.

Let's be honest, are the recipients of the gifts we buy, genuiny happy they'll have more 'stuff' to sort out after the big day? Do you really want to spend your hard earned money on an impulse bought gift that will just end up sat in the back of a cupboard?

Why not switch up your gift buying this year and join me for my Sustainable Gift shopping session.

There's plenty of inspiration on more meaningful gift ideas, how to spend your money and be appreciated, plus tips on reducing all that rubbish you're left to sort out after the big day.

And best of all, when you book on, you'll have access to my unique personal eco shopper service for 4 weeks after the session. I'll support you in buying as many gifts as you need my help with - in the most sustainable way possible.

Christmas should not cost the Earth.

They absorb CO2 and emit Oxygen.

They provide habitats for bugs, birds and small mammals.

Hugging a tree is great for our wellbeing!

But also, they can provide us with a free source of food. And pesticide free food at that!

In the UK at this time of year, we have an abundance of apples and pears. So if you have your own garden, why not plant a fruit tree?

Just being able to walk out in to your garden and pick something to eat is a very special feeling.

It's coming up to tree planting season, so why not look for space to plant your own?

Don't believe everything you read in the news. We Don't believe everything you read in the news.

We are being bombarded by bad news and crazy politics aren't we?

Yet, despite the change in stance over in the US, progress is still being made on investment in renewable energy - with a 10% increase in projects carried out over this time last year.

Not only that, in the EU, for the first time over half our power has come from renewable energy AND 40% globally.

The biggest surprise though comes from the other side of the world.

China's emissions actually fell by 1.6% in the first quarter of this year, compared to the start of 2024.

This is primarily due to a huge 5.8% drop in carbon emissions by their power industry. When you consider the scale of their energy sector - this is massive news.

So despite the doom and gloom we're feeling, there is a LOT of important progress being made.

Happy weekend!
