Why being Eco-friendly is more affordable than you think

Why being Eco-friendly is more affordable than you think

by Lyn Lapworth

How it all began In October 2020 a friend of mine made a comment about how she thought being eco-friendly was expensive. This was a real light bulb moment – there and then, I knew I had to do something to prove otherwise. I had 2 young children and as a family...

Back in the day, I used to call myself something d Back in the day, I used to call myself something different.

When I first started to pay attention to what was happening to our planet, we didn't use the term "eco-friendly" we used the term "environmentally friendly"

And I think we should re-introduce it.

Environmentally friendly feels more connected to this planet that we rely on for everything that's important to us.

When we think of "eco-friendly" we tend to think of global warming and climate change, which means reducing our carbon footprint.

However the term "environmentally-friendly" is much more aligned with the earth, water and air - all the vital elements for our survival.

Yet what we're doing to our earth, water and air is pretty shocking.

We're systematically poisoning the very environment we live in.

Our water is full of microplastics, oil spills, chemicals from industrial run off and sewage!

The earth we use to grow our crops is being damaged too. More microplastics, more pollutants.

Studies show we have around 40 years worth of quality farmable land left because of the damage we're causing. Let that sink in for a minute.

The pesticides used to kill bugs (and bees) doesn't just land on the plants it's sprayed over, it lands on the soil. And when we wash our food at home (please tell me you wash your food!) - the pesticides run off in to our waterways.

The air we're breathing isn't exactly in great shape either. The air in our homes is 2 to 5 times more polluted than the air outside due to all the hidden toxins in our homes.

But there's such little awareness, so how are you supposed to know where to start?

The information is out there when you go looking for it. VOC's, phthalates and 'perfume' are all things we've heard of - but do you know the damage they could be causing to your health?
Allergens, endocrine disruptors, even carcinogens are hidden in some of the regular items you have in your home.

I know it's overwhelming, that's why many of the ways we can be more 'environmentally friendly' and subsequently improve our physical wellbeing are covered in my sessions.

The next group intake for my RAMP up your Sustainability program is next month, so message me today for details.
So here's the thing. We're so much more powerful So here's the thing.

We're so much more powerful than we realise ladies.

Here we are, quietly getting on with life, head down focusing on the next task, then the next one.

However by tweaking the way you do those tasks, you can really step in to your power.

Simple changes to daily routines count for a LOT. And these can be as easy as reducing the flow of your shower or when you run the tap to wash your hands.

Think about how easy that is.

And then notice the confidence shifts as you look for the next thing you can tweak, then the next.

The inner glow from knowing you're making a difference becomes quite addictive.

So the search for other small changes continues, and within a short space of time your entire mindset around what living more sustainably really means has shifted.

It creeps up on you, slowly but surely.

Are you ready to have your very own Environ-mentor show you the way?

Message me today for details of my RAMP up your Sustainability program - built to help busy women reduce overwhelm and increase their confidence.
Hi - thank you to all the new followers, it means Hi - thank you to all the new followers, it means the world that you're interested in me and my business.

So here's a little more about the person behind ECO for ALL.

First and foremost, I'm Mum to a 14yr old daughter and 10yr old son. They're my world and their future is front and centre of what I do.

I'm a wife, daughter, sister and loyal friend (I like to think ☺️)

I'm also an animal lover and when Body Shop was in its heyday, along with many, I discovered some brands tested their products on animals. This prompted me to pay much closer attention to who I bought from and which businesses were Cruelty free.

I strongly believe in just being kind. None of us know what everyone else is going through at any time. More often than not, someone could be strongly and a kind word or a hug could make all the difference to their day. We're all just doing our best after all.

I'm also on a mission to spread hope and positivity and actively follow many 'Good news' accounts to I can share stories of the many wonderful people quietly doing fabulous things.

So that's a little about me.

If you'd like to know more, I'd love to hear from you so drop me a message and we'll arrange a virtual cuppa. 🫶

Vinted users - you need to know this! Here we are Vinted users - you need to know this!

Here we are, buying Preloved in order to do our bit for the planet, but using Vinted has just got a little more complicated.

There are now sellers on Vinted who are based in the US.

So if you're UK based, you do NOT want to be buying preloved, only for it to be flown across the ocean to get to you.

To make sure you avoid this trap, it's worth checking the profile of the seller before you buy. Their location details are clearly displayed.

Also, it's worth sticking to brands you know are available in the UK as this means they are more likely to be sold from the UK.

And lastly, if you hit buy, there will be a notice about exchange rates, so keep your eyes peeled! 👀👀

Of course if this feels too complicated until @vinted add a Location filter to their app (hurry up with this please Vinted!) you can always support small local preloved businesses such as @sweetpeaprelovedwomens and @thrift_plus_uk - or head for a browse round your local charity shops next time you're in town. 👌
Yesterday, an old memory made me shudder. While Yesterday, an old memory made me shudder.

While playing taxi mum, I drove past the sports centre where my kids learnt to swim.

Do you remember those days?

The rushing to get there, getting them changed (I swear it would be easier dressing an octopus) then getting that awful swim hat on!

And after the lesson, dealing with the hideousness of getting them showered and washing their hair while they complain the whole time!

And as for the changing rooms themselves... 😱

But these are the things we'll do so our kids can learn a life skill. It's too important.

We'll do anything for them won't we?

This should include learning a life skill of our own...

Changing our way of life in a way that's going to reduce our impact on the planet feels big. Too big.

However, it's the single most important thing we can do for our younger family members. This is their future and we can make a difference.

Yes, we're all busy being the family taxi, chef, carer, PA etc.

But instead of fixating on the harder stuff, like changing to a vegan diet, stopping flying and installing solar panels, let's focus on the things you are able to change.

Those daily habits.

These are the things you can control.
How you cook, how long you shower for, the temperature you put your washing machine on, swapping to a different cleaning product.

These tweaks don't take much brain capacity but do make a difference.

So why wouldn't you?

Drop me a message on here for details of my RAMP up your Sustainability program and secure your seat for the March intake.

And you'll benefit from simplified, non-preachy, confidence building and empowering lifestyle changes.
TRUE STORY. Over the weekend, my daughter was try TRUE STORY.

Over the weekend, my daughter was trying to finish a documentary she's preparing for school.

She'd been working in it for a while, so I popped in to see how she was getting on.

I found a frustrated and annoyed teen tapping away at a laptop that wasn't responding as quickly as she expected.

Her laptop is a few years old so it's no surprise it's slowing down a little.

"Mum, I need a new laptop!"

"OK, let me have a look" - I took her laptop and discovered she was absolutely right to be feeling frustrated. It was painfully slow.

However, instead of agreeing to buy a new laptop, I simply apllied some simple maintenance techniques.

Optimising storage (defragging in my day) is always my first port of call.

Then after that, I checked how much storage she's using, and where.

There was 2.76GB of data in her Recycle bin. She had no idea files needed deleting from the Bin.

So we deleted them and all of a sudden her laptop is back to running smoothly again.

My point?

Looking after the things we own will delay them being recycled or going to landfill - therefore save us money in the long run.

Simple maintenance doesn't take long, so next time there a wet and windy weekend (!) - maybe a spot of device maintenance, deleting old videos and photos or defrosting the freezer should go on the jobs list.
What a morning! Holly Nixon @tadahsupport pulled What a morning!

Holly Nixon @tadahsupport pulled it out of the bag yet again.

Today saw the launch of the 6th!!! @athenawarks womens networking group.

I joined Athena 3.5 years and quite simply would not be without it. This network is about support first and foremost. What can I help you with? is one of our most frequently asked questions.

Holly gathered around 90 women at the lush @mallory_court in Harbury to officially launch the new Leamington Leap group (although you don't officially have to live in Leamington to join 🤫)

And as is the way with the events Holly throws everything was taken care, every detail was considered.

Along with a few other OG's I was asked to be on standby to make sure no visitor was left with no one to speak with. And to take care of anyone looking a little overwhelmed.

To be quite honest, it was exactly what I needed today too. Being in the room with so many of business family, with all their energy and warmth was such a tonic!

I've always said I'd pay to be a member of Athena even if I didn't have a business - and today was the perfect example why.

Thanks to all the fabulous ladies I had the privilege to speak with. Far too many to tag but you know who you are. 😀
According to Mars bar adverts, it's all work, rest According to Mars bar adverts, it's all work, rest and play.

But it's not, they're missing 1 vital activity.

Learn.

There's always something to learn.

Whether that's via a Podcast, that book you've been meaning to read, a Netflix series, or even learning how to make sourdough.

We love to learn!

It keeps our brains ticking over doesn't it?

But when it comes to learning how to live in a more eco-friendly way, it's hard to know where to start.

You may have bought the refillable hand wash - but the refill is in a plastic pouch, so is that any better?

You may have tried laundry sheets, but they didn't work as well as you'd hoped.

Or you may have discovered that a brand you thought were quite eco, weren't as good and now you're feeling greenwashed. Who can you trust? How do you tell??

Firstly, let me reassure you that we've all been there! Even the most experienced eco warrior has made a choice that wasn't as sustainable as they'd hoped. And that very much includes me!

However, I'm well on my way to 20 years experience in spotting genuinely eco-friendly businesses.

I've been learning from my mistakes and finding where's best to do my research.

I've been reducing plastic packaging (by around 80-90%) in my shopping and removing nasty chemicals from the home I'm raising my kids in.

So I have a lot to share - offering you a short cut to a more eco-friendly way of life.

And you only need to spare 1hr of your time a month for our sessions...because I know you're busy.

You have my support whenever you need it in between sessions, because I know questions will come up.

You even get my help with sourcing more eco-friendly purchases to fit your budget, so you have peace of mind you won't be greenwashed.

And you'll get to join a group of like-minded people as a constant reminder it's not just you making changes.

I've thought of everything!

Drop me a 💚 below and I'll message you with the details of my RAMP up your Sustainability program - the easiest and most affordable way of learning the most important skill for you and your family.

Just £35 per month if you contact me before the end of January.
Life. Life is busy, right? We're running around Life.

Life is busy, right?
We're running around looking after everyone and everything.

The household, family, shopping, work, trying to keep up with friends.

So its simply not realistic to set ourselves the goal of consistent and perfect eco-friendly choices.

So don't do it!
Perfection is the thief of progress.

Last week, I had to flex a little.
I made choices I wouldn't have normally made.

In the run up to my son's birthday party the venue confirmed they only supplied pizza for their lunch.

I already had a few salady bits to go with the pizza but wanted some fruit to go with the birthday cake.

So I bought strawberries and blueberries in plastic packaging.

From a supermarket I'm not particularly a fan of.

And yes, they're not in season in the UK.

But last week, like half the population, I was fighting a bug. I had 1 opportunity to go to a shop while my daughter was in her dance class, so I took it. I popped to the nearest supermarket and picked up the last bits I needed for the party.

And I could easily sit here and beat myself up for buying out of season fruit in plastic packaging, but I know I've made countless other choices that were the better ones.

I'm just allowing myself a blip because life isn't predictable or straightforward.

So we move on and try and make a more eco-friendly choice next time. And know it's OK to wobble.

What's not OK is to not try.
10 years ago today, we brought this bundle home. 10 years ago today, we brought this bundle home.

2016 was the year of all those celebrity deaths, but also the year I brought a new life in to the world.

Our son completed our family of 4, however for a long while we thought it would just be the 3 of us.

After my eldest was born, we assumed baby number 2 would be a formality.

How wrong we were.

After several tests, I was told it was unlikely I'd have a 2nd child - and not only that, I'd probably go through early menopause.
What a double whammy!

As the months went by we continued with life as a family of 3, planning for my daughter to start school.

The summer before she started school, the unexpected happened. I discovered I was pregnant.

The initial shock and disbelief turned in to 'oh my god' - as we realised the thought we'd left nappies and sleepless nights behind us wasn't true.

And I'll be honest, 10 years on, the sleep still isn't great. If you've known me a while you'll have heard me talk about our sleep challenges.

But my son, my miracle, is worth every single second of sleep deprivation.

My kids are my world and I know I'm so fortunate to have 2 happy, healthy kids.

And I'll do anything it takes for their future.
My breath has well and truly been taken! Last nig My breath has well and truly been taken!

Last night I finally made it to the cinema to watch Hamnet.

Have you seen it?

Its such a stunning piece of cinematography.

The story is a simple one but beautifully told. The raw, gritty performances of Jessie Buckley and Paul Mascal leave you totally absorbed.

And I somehow managed not to cry. (no spoilers if you haven't yet seen it)

Its well worth a watch if you haven't been.

Aside from the phenomenal acting, I loved the connection with nature. The woods were the safe space for Anyes. Her sanctuary.

And she grew up learning how to create her own natural remedies, something we seem to have become disconnected from these days.

Thank you @shehnaaz_latif for the recommendation, it was absolutely captivating!hehnaaz Latif for the recommendation, it was absolutely captivating!
Hello 52! Yesterday was my birthday- a lovely rel Hello 52!

Yesterday was my birthday- a lovely relaxed day with my family. Just what I needed.

I can't quite believe I'm 52 years old. I don't really feel it. I know I feel very grateful to have a close family and so many wonderful friends - some I've known for years.

I also feel very blessed to be able to run this business. ECO for ALL has brought some incredible women in to my life and allowed me to grow in ways I'd never imagined.

Its been quite a journey!

There are also some very strong principals by which I now live.

#1 Creating memories is so much more important than any possession. We learned this over Lockdown and I think that experience has slipped from our minds a little. Spending time with those we love is THE most important way we can enrich our lives. Filling our homes with clutter, really doesn't.

#2 We need nature more than nature needs us. Again something we learned over Lockdown. Spending time outdoors is vital for our physical and mental health, particularly at this time of year. Having access to nature feeds our creativity and builds our immune system. Understanding how important the natural world is, brings respect and a need to preserve it. We definitely wouldn't survive for long without everything nature provides.

#3 Maintaining the idea we can all make a difference, feeling empowered and involved, is everything. Seek out the good news that's out there is vital. The bad news feels all consuming sometimes, yet there is so much good when you look for it. I'm a firm believer that most people are driven by making this world a better place - and that gives me hope for the future.
