I'm just processing the events of today so I can f I'm just processing the events of today so I can find the words to describe how important a day it's been. Today saw the very first @stratford.dc Stratford-on-Avon District Council Climate Assembly. I had taken a stand to promote my business not being entirely sure what to expect from the day. It kicked off with a talk from Cllr Susan Juned who is one of the most respected and experienced climate experts I have shared a room with. We also heard from Elizabeth Freestone and David Tanqueray, representatives from the @thersc Royal Shakespeare Company. They talked about the initiatives of theatres across the country to tackle issues such as waste reduction, carbon footprint and how theatres can respond to the climate emergency. We heard how theatres now share sets, props and costumes, or reuse and repurpose them for different productions - something that was unheard of a few years ago. Small local businesses are now being used for sourcing some props and costumes, plant based food is being served in the restaurant, they're phasing out single used plastics and even reviewing their digital footprint. It's clear they're taking their role very seriously. The day was then dedicated to various working groups, all tasked with different topics to brainstorm. Interested members of the public met with local volunteer groups, council members met with local high school children and the suggestions were all pooled at the end of the event. Hearing the outcomes, witnessing the dedication from across such a wide range of society and particularly listening to the thoughts of those high school children - all led to a collective feeling of being inspired and enthused. I've come away with many interesting connections, a very full brain - and something I've not experienced for a while - genuine hope. #climateaction #climateeducation #climatesolutions

Aside from it being sunny, we've had a short week due to the Bank Holiday AND we have 2 days off, I have a few more reasons to channel that feelgood factor. Here are a few snippets of good news that show we are making progress 💚 💚 @ikea are leading the way again by launching their own Preloved site! It's already up and running in Madrid and Oslo and should be launched globally in December. 💚 An American brewery, Saltwater, has introduced six pack rings that are edible so aquatic wildlife will be fed rather than injured if these make their way in to the water system. 💚 The UK is on track to break it's 2022 solar output record and is looking likely to beat last summer by almost a quarter! This is set to increase further as the new Government have approved 3 major new solar fields. 💚 I've just discovered the collective name for a swarm of ladybirds is a Loveliness! 🐞🐞🐞 💚 You're not too late, there are still a few spaces left for my next RAMP up your Sustainabilty Groups, launching in October. How do you feel about WhatsApp groups? Are you ov How do you feel about WhatsApp groups? Are you overrun with them? Do you find the endless pinging of your phone distracting? Or do you have them all muted so just check on them when it suits you? Love them or loathe them, WhatsApp groups are pretty useful. As the owner of a small business that runs group programs, WhatsApp is super helpful, allowing me to check in on all my clients quickly and effectively. I feel the need for a little rant. For a long tim I feel the need for a little rant. For a long time now, I've avoided reading newspapers. I'd say at least 15 years. They just bug me. The invasion in to people's lives, making announcements that aren't theirs to make, sneaking around with their long telephoto lenses - and putting their spin on stories to make them fit with their beliefs. It doesn't sit well with me. Most of us turn to online news these days anyway, but even then, the spin is evident. But what really riles me, is the radio silence on climate change. There needs to be more information shared by our media. If the general public aren't aware, then how can we expect anyone to act? For example, last week, we sadly heard about the Baleysian yacht sinking off the coast of Sicily. We know a freak storm caused the boat to sink. In the days afterwards the only mention of the impact climate change had on the weather conditions were tucked away down the bottom of the news article. "In the last week, the Mediterranean has registered its highest sea surface temperature on record, which has helped to energise this recent storm outbreak." It's resigned to a side note, like we've all accepted the consequences but are doing our best to bury our heads in the sand. Isn't there too much at risk to not even try and change our habits? We managed it when we discovered CFCs were damaging the Ozone layer. Also, the day Oasis made headline news by announcing a reunion, the 5th article tucked away on BBC News that morning was about a report released by the UN Climate Action Team called "Surging Seas in a Warming World". Global average sea levels are currently rising at rates unprecedented in the past 3,000 years. Just stop and think about that for a minute. 3000 years! It's too easy to skim over these statistics without actually stopping and taking it in. These statistics, the regular breaking of global sea temperature records, record breaking hottest days, wildfires, rainfall etc...are going to affect us all. So why is this not headline news, day in and day out? I do wonder what impact it would have if constant media coverage put greater pressure on our politicians. Do you ever seek out climate news?
This is my stash! ☺️ You may be wondering wha This is my stash! ☺️ You may be wondering what on earth I'm talking about. It's just a bunch of tissues. It's actually serviettes that I've picked up whenever we've eaten out (which is most weeks 🙈) Have you ever noticed that when the waiting staff clear your plates and cutlery, they often take your serviettes too. Then when you order a pudding (which is obligatory right??) you're given your dessert spoon with another serviette. But have you thought about what happens if you don't use these serviettes? They just get thrown away! Perfectly good, unused serviettes. Well not on my watch! Wherever I am, if a serviette on our table hasn't been used, it gets added to my emergency stash - and not straight in the bin!
